Billed as a Trump-a-Palooza (sp?}, the GOP Midterm Convention held in Dallas this past week — designed to rally the faithful to vote in November — might have been exciting to attend, but to watch on TV left me shaking with fear. “The GOP is dead come November” was my reaction.
In truth, I found it almost impossible to watch. Even the fact that Donald Trump once again had to attach his name to the proceedings says a lot about the man in the White House. Admittedly, I voted for him three times because I saw disaster looming in his three opponents from the Demofiend Party. Two fortunately lost, but one — Joe Biden — actually brought disaster to the nation.
Trump is so desperate to go down in the history books as the greatest thing since sliced bread that everything he does has to have his name attached to it: Trump Accounts, TrumpRx, Trump Center for the Performing Arts, Trump-a-Palooza. The list goes on and on.
Trump at the convention may have broken his own record not only for his longest speech ever, at one hour and forty-five minutes, but also for his most repetitive monologue, filled with what he calls “truthful hyperbole,” but which are mostly outright lies.
I tried to watch JD Vance give his preoration, but he reveled so much in hearing his name chanted when he took the stage that I tuned out. I had no desire for another ego display. Trump is enough.
I have this overwhelming sense that the nation, except for those loyalists gathered in Dallas, are pretty sick and tired of Sir Donald. He calls the affordability crisis “a hoax.” Obviously, this is a man who has probably never shopped at a grocery store, and if he has, he didn’t have to worry about balancing his checking account.
He also has the nation mired in an unpopular war, the objective of which — according to him — is to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons. The problem with this justification is that, in June 2025, he proclaimed that Iran’s nuclear capability had been destroyed by Operation Midnight Hammer.
Only eight months later, he then launched a war on Iran, first for regime change, and when that failed, to prevent Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapon, according to his justifications. The hidden truth is that Trump thought Iran would be another Venezuela, and he would have a puppet running the country for him, as Delcy Rodriguez does in Caracas.
Let’s hope that the Dems take only the House in November. If they only take the House, the first thing they’ll do is pass a War Powers Act Resolution to stop the war in Iran (if it’s still going on in January 2027). If Trump doesn’t, he’ll be impeached. If the war is over, they’ll find another reason to impeach him in the House and send it to the Senate. There might be four or more impeachment moves from 2027 to election day 2028.
If they take both houses of Congress, they’ll move to end the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court. Trump will veto it, of course, but then you’ll see Medicare for All (another veto), etc., etc., setting the stage for the 2028 presidential election. The Demofiends will then run on Trump vetoes of popular measures like Medicare for All.

My cure for this disaster: Have President Trump resign for health reasons and let JD Vance take over to set a milder tone. Otherwise, Trump will be on the ballot, and 2028 will be another disaster for the GOP like November 2026.
