After my writing that Trump lacks the cojones vis-a-vis Vladimir Putin (which may ultimately prove to be the case), Trump 45 appeared to return in a welcoming meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. (No connection to what I wrote; I was just impressed with the presence of the Trump I remember.)
Background: Demofiends went racist bonkers when Trump allowed 59 white refugees from South Africa to get visas to the U.S., but no Blacks were in the arrivals. Problem is, as Trump initially explained and further emphasized today, white farmers in South Africa are being murdered and their farms seized.
Now, President Ramaphosa came across as the ultimate gentleman in the welcome meeting at the White House. However, he also appeared completely clueless when Trump showcased videos of graves of murdered white farmers in South Africa. Ramaphosa asked, “Where is that?”
(On second thought, he wasn’t clueless, but disingenuous. He knew all about it but was playing dumb.)
I actually felt bad for the leader of South Africa. He kept emphasizing how Nelson Mandela, founder of post-Apartheid South Africa, emphasized that peace must be maintained at all costs and that that goal requires all parties to sit and talk.
Let’s hope the Trump-Ramaphosa behind-closed-doors meeting resolved this issue, in the best spirit of Nelson Mandela.
Now, if Trump were as direct with Putin in his phone call Monday as he was today with the South African leader, then he has my heartfelt mea culpa, and the world may prove the real winner from Trump’s phone call.
HISTORIAL FOOTNOTE: WHen Mandela wanted to visit the U.S. post-incarceration, Trump sent his personal airplane to bring the statesman here and take him home, with stops in-bewteen.
