As a gesture of good will or at least global public relations, Venezuela is releasing some political prisoners while it works on its evolving relationship with the United States and President Donald Trump.
The major news coming out of the White House regarding Venezuela is that the U.S. will be getting an initial windfall of 30,000 to 50,000 gallons of Venezuelan crude oil, as Trump and his administration continue to “run” the country under the auspices of Interim President Delcy Rodriguez.
As for news emanating from Venezuela, Delcy’s brother, Jorge Rodriguez, announced today that the country will be releasing a “significant number” of prisoners, both foreign and domestic. “These releases from prison are occurring at this very moment,” said Rodriguez, who is jefe of the Venezuelan Congress.
Rodriguez explained that the release of this unspecified number of prisoners is a gesture “to seek peace as the contribution that we all must make to ensure that our republic continues its peaceful life in pursuit of prosperity.” (The parts about republic, peaceful life, and prosperity are not only laughable, but also might cause the listener/reader to gag.)
According to the Wall Street Journal in its news article, political prisoners in Venezuela are literally made to eat shit, pardon my French.
The article notes that these prisoners are “beaten and tortured by putting a bag over their heads, forcing them to eat pasta with excrement and giving them electric shocks to their genitals.”
I guess the electric shocks are designed to make the food go down better.
