Putin Puts the Kibosh on Trump/Zelenskyy/Coalition-of-the-Willing Pipedreams about Peace in Ukraine

Is anybody listening to what’s been coming out of Moscow about peace prospects for Ukraine? I mean, are people in D.C. and in capitals throughout Europe paying attention?

Good ol’ Vladimir himself today announced that any security force sent to Ukraine would be considered enemy combatants.

Now, this could be interpreted as meaning that while the war is still going on, they would be considered enemy targets, and that’s, sadly, the exact point

Putin sees the war as continuing until Ukraine becomes a part of Russia, or, alternately, Trump and European leaders agree to Putin’s peace terms. Of course, his terms are meant to continue the war after a brief pause for Russia to regroup, while everybody is fooled into thinking peace is in place.

“We’ll proceed from the assumption that these are legitimate targets for strikes,” Putin said of any troops sent in as a security detail. His remarks came just one day after the U.S. and European leaders agreed on how the peacetime security force would be assembled and deployed.

Putin also pooh-poohed any thought of a summit with Ukraine President Zelenskyy because the two countries’ positions are so far apart in his view.

A Zelenskyy advisor, Mykhailo Podolyak, had this to say about President Trump’s peace efforts so far:

“Putin used the Alaska negotiations solely to buy time and later humiliated President Trump, All steps by the American administration toward establishing peace were rejected.”

Amen to that. Someone finally got it right.
