Ukraine is taking the war with Russia into Putin’s homeland using drones. A recent target has been a retail operation known as Wildberries, but in addition to selling consumer goods, the operation also serves as a hub for Russian weapons, according to officials in Kyiv.
Ukrainian drones struck the facility on Friday and also hit a “military enterprise” in the city of Kirov, according to Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy,
The Kirov attack left six dead and more than two dozen injured, according to Kirov regional Governor Aleksandr Sokolov.
Russia was also busy on Friday, striking a site near Kyiv during a Ukrainian defense-industry event, killing at least 10 people and injuring about 100, Ukrainian officials said. Zelenskyy said Russia was planning a major counter-assault within 48 hours.
Today, Ukraine struck camps in the partly Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia region, killing 12, according to local Russian officials. At the same time, a Russian drone attack in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region killed three.
The Russian-Ukrainian conflict is now well into its fifth year after then-President Joe Biden in 2022 gave Russia the okay for a “minor incursion.” Candidate Donald Trump in 2024 vowed to end the war in 24 hours if he were elected. He lately has been mostly silent on peace in the conflict after a ceasefire summit with Putin in Alaska led nowhere.
