Iran read the memorandum of understanding (MOU) it signed with President Trump and concluded it could charge fees for ships using the Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s cash register started ringing in his brain over the dollars that tolls could produce. And today he announced the U.S. would keep the Strait open — but vessels traveling through would have to pay the U.S. 20 percent of their cargo’s value. Wow! Talk about a toll!
The president also announced that the U.S. blockade of Iranian vessels would be reinstated, but other ships would be allowed through the Strait, fees collected. The U.S., he said, is now “Guardian of the Hormuz Strait.”
Guardian with a huge bank vault waiting to be filled, one could logically conclude.
“We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving,” he explained in a post on Truth Social. “The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran,” Trump wrote, saying the measure would prevent only Iranian ships or their customers from entering or leaving the waterway.
