Ted Cruz 2028 Crystal Ball: President AOC, Senator Mamdani

Ted Cruz, who himself came awfully close to a GOP Presidential nomination in 2016, is now looking forward to 2028 and what will happen. He sees a big future for the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) getting the Dem WHite House nomination, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani cleaning Chuck Schumer’s clock for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Okay, I stretched my headline a bit. The Senator from Texas is not predicting AOC will win the Presidency, just that she will beat out her rivals and get the nod. Cruz made his predictions both live on Fox News and also with posts on X.

On the AOC candidacy, Cruz told Fox: “She’s the number one Democratic candidate in the country in New Hampshire.”  Problem is, the Dems are considering opening their nominating process in South Carolina.

As for Mamdani, Cruz says he is “the single most powerful Democrat in the country.” Which is probably no doubt true as of this writing, but matters are still two years off, with some midterm races this year to help clarify who’s in and who’s out in the Democrat Party.

As for current NY Senator Schumer, who has long feared being aced out by AOC, Cruz sees it differently: “My prediction is comrade Mamdani will be the next Democrat senator from New York, that Mamdani will replace Schumer.”

As for fellow GOPers who see the rise of DSAers like AOC and Mamdani as trouble for the Dems, Cruz is less sanguine: “There are some Republicans that are celebrating [the rise of DSA candidates]. I wanna say for the record: I’m not celebrating. I think this is bad for the country.”
