As the news of the week has made clear, for the foreseeable future there is going to be lots of uncertainty — and stock market jitters — as President Trump’s “Liberation Day” round of tarfiffs hit home. These tariffs are, at least in theory, going to jack up the price of a vehicle purchase by 25 percent or more, provided manufacturers and dealers don’t find ways to cut cost.
Under the Trumpian tariffs, unless a vehicle is manufactured here in the U.A. of A., it will be subject to a 25-percent tariff, even if the said vehicle is built in neighboring Canada or Mexico under U.S. automakers’ leadership.
This prospect — coupled with overall country-by-country implementation of “reciprocal” tariffs — has sent investors into a tizzy. The markets are down about 10 percent since The Donald’s Rose Garden announcement.
There is good news, however, as scores of vehicles are still being made right here in America — even the pictured Lexus — and Ford Motor Company has even announced price cuts to meet the new tariff scare.
Motor Trend has compiled a list of U.S.-built vehicles, which I say presents a pretty comprehensive view of tariff-free options ready for you to drive away with. Check out the list and get out your checkbooks. Buy American — that’s the whole point of the Trumpian tariffs.
