It may have been a one-percentage-point victory, but V.I. Lenin-clone Abdul El-Sayed is headed for a November election for the U.S. Senate. His opponent will be a House Republican who failed in his last senatorial campaign, Mike Rogers. The seat is open because incumbent Senator Gary Peters, a Democrat, chose not to seek a third term.
The highly contested battle between El-Sayed and four-term Congresswoman Haley Stevens lasted until the wee hours, with the AP eventually declaring the communist-in-disguise the winner, 48.5 percent to 47.5 percent. President Trump immediately proclaimed the outcome to be “great news” for the Republican Party. Polls show Rogers three percentage points ahead of El-Sayed, but anything can happen between now and November.
The race included heavy outside spending, including from pro-Israel groups supporting Stevens, while El-Sayed campaigned on Medicare for All, campaign finance reform, and ending military aid to Israel.
