I read an interesting article the other day about JD Vance “wavering” over a presidential bid in 2028, but substitute the word “posturing” and you’d have a better description on what he said to CBS News in an interview:
“Of course, there’s a chance [I won’t run]. We’ve got four little kids, my wife has never loved politics. She loves public service…. Anything can happen, man.”
Of course, he’ll run. The real question is: How much influence does his so-called apolitical wife exert over him?
I also read an interview with wife Usha, who claims her political views are often “idiosyncratic,” which I assume to mean “liberal,” maybe “way liberal.” After all, she was a Democrat stalwart until her hubby up and ran for office, at which point she felt obliged to support him and voted Republican.
I didn’t really think about the matter until this week when JD broke with President Trump in not supporting Benjamin Netanyahu in his bid for another term as Israeli President, as Trump openly did. That got my mental wheels turning.
It was also JD who negotiated that “peace deal” with Iran that basically gave the Mullahs everything they wanted. Fortunately, it lasted but a few days until Trump saw through it all (what took so long?) and bailed out.
Did Usha play a part in either of these incidents/decisions — peace deal or Bibi no-go?
Now, Mrs. Vance is a Hindu, and Hindus have a notoriously bad relationship with Muslims, so on the surface, it would be hard to see her supporting Muslims in a peace deal with the U.S. But she could, as a liberal Democrat at heart, be totally Israel-wary, or even anti-Israel.
I certainly don’t want to bring religion into any discussion of politics. Still, I’m pondering how JD, an erstwhile Middle Eastern war veteran, justified siding with the Islamic Republic. (Maybe he secretly wanted the Nobel Peace Prize.)
We’ll never know until tell-all books are written, perhaps after JD gets walloped in his 2028 presidential run by AOC, or another communist fellow traveler.
