The Greys (Zeta Reticulans)
Perhaps the most iconic figure in UFO lore, the Greys are typically described by proponents as standing between 3.5 and 4.5 feet tall in their “short” form, or 6 to 7 feet tall in reported “tall Grey” variants. Witnesses and researchers who discuss the type describe smooth, hairless skin ranging from pale grey to dark charcoal, along with an oversized, bulbous head lacking visible ears or a prominent nose, save for small slits. Accounts describe a narrow slit for a mouth and large, black, almond-shaped eyes that wrap around the sides of the face. The build attributed to Greys is extremely slender, with a frail torso, elongated arms, and long, thin fingers.
Reptilians (Draconians)
Also known in ufology circles as Draconians, Reptilians are described as considerably larger, with claimed heights ranging from 6 to 9 feet. Accounts characterize their skin as scaled, in shades from deep green to brown or bronze, and often depict them as cold-blooded and snake-like in demeanor. Descriptions include a muscular, lizard-like head featuring vertical-slit pupils, yellow or green irises, pronounced brow ridges, and sharp, conical teeth. Believers describe a heavy, muscular frame with broad shoulders and clawed digits, and some accounts add vestigial tails or spinal crests, though such details remain firmly within the realm of speculative reporting.
Nordic Aliens (Nordics)
In contrast to the Greys and Reptilians, so-called Nordic aliens are described as closely resembling humans. Reported to stand 6 to 7 feet tall, Nordics are said to have fair, radiant skin and strikingly human facial features, often paired with pale blue or violet eyes and straight blonde, silver, or light-colored hair. Descriptions depict a well-proportioned, athletic, and muscular build said to be virtually indistinguishable from that of Scandinavian humans — a resemblance that gives the archetype its name.
Insectoids (Mantis Beings)
The fourth commonly cited archetype, Insectoids or “Mantis beings,” are said to stand between 6 and 8 feet tall. Accounts describe a chitinous exoskeleton in colors ranging from dark brown to a bright praying-mantis green, along with a triangular head, large compound eyes in shades of dark brown, black, or red, and thin, movable mandibles. The build attributed to this type is extremely thin and segmented, with jointed limbs and a bent, stooped posture reminiscent of a giant praying mantis.
Despite the vivid detail found in these accounts, experts and government agencies alike stress that no physical evidence has emerged to substantiate the existence of any of these beings. The recent wave of declassified files and video releases has undeniably added to the volume of documented unidentified sightings, but “unidentified” remains the operative word. Until verifiable evidence surfaces, the four archetypes described above remain part of ufological tradition and popular culture rather than confirmed scientific fact.
