Well, I guess you don’t have to live in China to rip off the U.S. government. You don’t have to live anywhere, in fact, since you’re either dead or not yet born.
At today’s Cabinet meeting in the White House, Elon Musk– Nazi extraordinaire (according to Demofiends) and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — revealed that his team had uncovered some interesting and innovative cases of unemployment insurance fraud.
An explanatory post on DOGE.com states that: “24.5k people over 115 years old claimed $59M in [unemployiment insurance]benefits,” “28k people between 1 and 5 years old claimed $254M in benefits,” and “9.7k people with birth dates over 15 years in the future claimed $69M in benefits.”
“In one case, someone with a birthday in 2154 claimed $41k,” the post notes. The UI fraud totaled just close to $400 million, peanuts compared to other DOGE discoveries, but the sheer brazenness of it all makes working in China as part of Fannie Mae seem almost ordinary.
“This is another incredible discovery by the DOGE team, finding nearly $400 million in fraudulent unemployment payments,” Department of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer said in a statement. “The Labor Department is committed to recovering Americans’ stolen tax dollars. We will catch these thieves and keep working to root out egregious fraud — accountability is here.”
