After 18 million in taxpayer dollars used as operating funds, a socialized market in Kansas City shut its doors today. The Sun Fresh Linwood, on Kansas City’s east side, called it quits after weeks and maybe months of empty shelves.

A black tarp covered the market’s signage today, while a posted note read: “Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer, at this time, able to serve the residents of this important community.”

Zohran Mamdani

I’ve been around long enough to remember seeing photos of long lines waiting to get into empty-shelved markets during the height of the Soviet Empire in Russia. Most voters in New York probably have no such memory as they head to the polls to elect a so-called Democratic Socialist, aka Communist.

Despite today’s stark message from Kansas City, Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani continues to advocate for opening public-operated markets in the city that never sleeps.

What does he care? His family is loaded with wealth and probably never shops for themselves. Socialism is great for those at the top, with their millions and minions to fall back on.

Good luck, everyone else in NYC if Mamdani is elected, as is so far appearing to be the likely outcome.
