SCOTUS Gives the Green Light to a ‘Giant Sucking Sound’ at the Department of Education
By “giant sucking sound,” I mean the screams of some 1,400 employees at the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) as they get their layoff notices and are sucked into the abyss of unemployment.
Gee, poor souls. They may have to actually work for a living in the future.

I once worked for a teachers’ union — granted, not a government agency but with the same pervasive work ethic — and if you walked down the halls, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone doing any real work.
Mostly, people would gather in each other’s offices and gab away the day.
Therefore, I am elated today that the Trump administration has received the “go” signal from the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) to implement its layoff program.
The layoffs, of course, are prologue to disbanding the agency in its entirety and allowing the states to set up their own programs.
Sadly, there will now be another “giant sucking sound” as these state agencies wean off the teat of the federal government for billions in aid.
WIll anything really change?
Yes, a precedent will be set that federal agencies are not carved in stone and untouchable.
