As I worked to set up my new site — this one — I heard news coming out of France that a court had blocked Marine Le Pen from seeking office for five years. I turned to my AI news-generation assistant and this is what it came up:
“The French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been barred from participating in the upcoming presidential election on March 31, 2025. The decision was made by French authorities due to allegations of financial misconduct and misuse of campaign funds. Le Pen has denied the accusations and has vowed to fight the decision. It remains to be seen how this development will impact the political landscape in France leading up to the election.”
Note the liberal tone from this AI aggregator, especially in describing Le Pen as “far right.” Have you ever heard of a far-left Democrat or liberal? Nah, that’s not permitted. They’re “progressives,” folks. You’d better sear that into your noggin, or the bots and cops will soon be after you (once Trump leaves office).
Anyway, it’s not so revolutionary for a European country to bar a convservative political candidate and, worse, even imprison them. The Biden Administration tried that against Donald Trump here in the states, which was ground-breaking, if not revolutionary. Let’s hope lawfare will disappear along with the pejorative use of the term “far right.”
The day after, Britain’s publication The Guardian quoted a defiant Le Pen (note again the use of “far right”):
“We will not let the French people have the presidential election stolen from them,” Le Pen says.
French far-right leader Marine Le Pen is back in her usual fiercely campaigning mode this morning, as she has just declared the National Rally would “not let the French people have the presidential election stolen from them” after yesterday’s court verdict effectively banning her from the 2027 race.
