TikTok Gets Another Tick Tock: Clock Is Ticking on Whether Trump’s Deadlines Mean Anything

I tuned in to CNN from time to time, and I must admit that when they just do the news, they are much better at it than Fox or Newsmax, both of which tend to rely on talking heads about 90 percent of the time.

I bring this up because CNN the other day had a panel discussing Trump’s recent two-week decision deadline on military involvement in the Iran-Israeli conflict. Now, admittedly, this wasn’t a news report, but opinion from the left.

One of the panelists listed how many times in the past Trump had given a deadline, often for two weeks, which then passed with no action on his part. This got me thinking about how many two-week or “soon” deadlines The Prez had put on Putin when asked whether he would apply sanctions to get the Russian leader to the ceasefire table.

Let’s see — no sanctions yet after five months in office.

News surfaces that Trump has now extended the deadline for Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok to be sold to U.S. buyers, or else. I believe the law gives the president only one window to extend the sale deadline, and Trump is now on his third.

Let’s be clear: The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which contols TikTok, will never allow its sale to American capitalists, so Trump may leave office with his umpteenth TikTok extension unless Congress or the courts step in.

Trump supporters will no doubt point to his 60-day deadline on Iran to sign a deal or else as evidence of the seriousness of The Donald’s deadlines. However, it was Israel, not Trump, that took action on the 61st day, with Trump initially denying any knowledge of Bibi Netanyahu’s intentions vis-a-vis Iran and the Trumpian deadline.

Now, I’m a Trump voter but not a MAGAmaniac, so I often find value — indeed, truth — in criticisms of Trump. Thus I agree with that CNN panelist — too many phony Trump deadlines.

Let’s hope Trump takes the two-week deadline on military action on Iran seriously and doesn’t just cop out by saying, a fortnight from now, “Israel has it all under control, and Iran will not get the bomb.”

If so, then I’ll know that the ghost of Neville Chamberlain stalks the White House and whispers in Trump’s ear.
