Sacré Bleu: Even Napoleon Might Not Be Able to Solve French Finances as the Prime Minister Is Ousted

The French National Assembly tossed out the nation’s prime minister in an overwhelming vote of no confidence today.

Some 364 assembly members in a body of 577 voted to oust a prime minister for the second time in one year. The PM, François Bayrou, belongs to the same party as President Emmanuel Macron, who has said he will not resign despite the vote.

“You have the power to overthrow the government, but you don’t have the power to erase reality,” Bayrou told lawmakers  before the vote, describing French finances as “a silent, underground, invisible, and unbearable hemorrhage.”

The vote came about as the nation’s public debt continued to rise out of control, amounting to 114 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

U.S. politicians should take note and reflect, as this country’s national debt is currently 119 percent of GDP and rising annually.
