Mamdani Comes Across as the More Accomplished Speaker in a Presser Held with Trump at the White House

Mamdani

Let’s see: Trump called him a communist when he was running for New York Mayor, and in response, Zohran Mamdani called Trump a fascist and told the president to “turn up the volume” during his victory speech to hear the cheering.

The two met today at the White House, and after their meeting fielded reporters’ questions in the Oval Office.

What transpired resembled a love fest on Trump’s part, while Mamdani used his time to highlight areas of agreement between the two, specifically on the cost of living.

Trump, of course, though vowing to work with the mayor on the affordability of food and rents, went into campaign mode by declaring prices are already receding.

(In addition, he raised the amount of investments pledged by foreign leaders and businesses in the U.S. to $21 trillion, up $3 trillion from just a few days ago.)

What I took away was the impression that Mamdani is a great speaker and campaigner.

No wonder he won in a walkaway. If I heard him on the radio without knowing his politics, I would be ready to vote for him too.

But in retrospect, Mamdani comes across as too polished, and thus perhaps less believable than the nitty-gritty approach of Donald J. Trump.
