I Take Some of It Back, Mr. Gutfeld — At Least You’ve Shown Stephen Colbert the Door to Oblivion

And another one bites the dust: “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” will air its last in May 2026, with no replacement being planned.

I got wind of this on various TV shows today, but I really got a kick out of the announcement on “Hannity.”

There, Hannity and a guest (I forgot who) were discussing the Colbert show and similar ones, and they bemoaned how political they are as opposed to pioneering talk shows by hosts such as Johnny Carson.

The comparison is right on, but as they credited Greg Gutfeld with bringing down Colbert, they overlooked the fact that “Gutfeld” deals with political topics and politicians almost nonstop.

So, if you’re going to criticize Colbert et al., you should probably find a different angle.

The main difference, as I see things, other than the fact that Gutfeld is conservative and Colbert liberal, is that Greg Gutfeld has a contingent of commentators and comedians joining him on the show — four others, to be precise.

At any rate, I still find Gutfeld the person to be not funny by nature (his opening jokes are all scripted), but I give him kudos for knocking off the competition.

Let’s continue the good work in that regard.
