Shutdown Drags On: Bring Back Musk, Resurrect DOGE and Make America Solvent Again (MASA)
The federal government is to a large extent shuttered, though you needn’t worry about the tax people. They ain’t goin’ anywhere.
The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has warned Demofiends, who sponsored the shutdown, that it may use the opportunity for massive staffing reductions.

An OMB memo last week advised departments facing funding cutoffs because of a shutdown to eliminate workers in positions “not consistent with the president’s priorities.” Once the shutdown ends, the memo asserts, federal agencies can adjust staffing to “… retain the minimal number of employees necessary to carry out statutory functions,”
Demofiends, of course, immediately said they’d reverse any terminations through the auspices of a friendly federal judge. Labor unions have already sued the Trump administration over the proposal.
I’d say go ahead and rip away. The Supreme Court may ultimately greenlight the dismissals.
OMB Director Russell Vought has already begun putting the brakes on funding programs dear to the left. He’s put a hold on $18 billion in infrastructure funding for New York City and has warned on X that $8 billion in climate funds for left-leaning states are in jeopardy.
It’s time for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to resurface on a voluntary basis and finish the job, with Elon Musk returning to oversee an end to governmental “fraud and abuse.”
Too bad OMB — or DOGE — can’t fire Senators and Congresspersons. I can think of several we can do without.
