Alex Villanueva, former Los Angeles County Sheriff, has formally announced bye-bye to his party of 40 years — the Demofiends, as I call them — and joined the Republican Party.
“As of today, I’m leaving the party of paid protests, purple hair, and pronouns, and joining the party of faith, family, and freedom,” Villanueva said in a video message posted to X.
“Time to make California purple again.”
Villanueva make news during the pandemic when he challenged certain mandates. Specifically, he refused an order to close the beaches during the July 4th holiday and also criticized an indoor mask mandate, citing a lack of scientific evidence to back it up.
Villanueva’s announcement came on May 4, but is just making the news cycle today for some reason.
