“Who turned off the lights?” Venezuelans were asking in the capital city of Caracas on the morning of January 3 as U.S. forces swooped in to capture dictator Nicolas Maduro. Turns out that the U.S. had employed a secret weapon straight out of the movies, or comic books, called The Discombobulator, to shut down most of the city’s power and its military and air defense systems.
President Trump has since refused to give any details about the weapon, but it is presumed to be a sonic or pulsed-energy system that takes out electric power generation facilities and military devices dependent on electronics.
The weapon was referenced today by the president during a visit to Fort Bragg to thank the troops for their seamless capture of Maduro and wife, Cilia Flores. Both are now awaiting trial in the U.S. on drug-related charges.
The visit to thank the troops marked the first time that Trump has publicly referred to the device, or whatever it is, but the implication is “China and Russia, we gotcha!”
Given Chinese ingenuity, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have, or are developing, a similar anti-weapon weapon. Russia is probably leaning on Iran or North Korea for its version.
At any rate, “Sonic Wars” is coming to a screen near you soon. Hopefully not to a city near you.
