When I watch “The Five” on Fox News (which isn’t that often), Greg Gutfeld stands out as probably the most insightful and penetrating in his analyses of everyone on the show.
When I watch him on his eponymous nightly TV show, however, I see someone completely out of his element and struggling to adapt to a format for which he is not naturally suited or predisposed.
Now, congratulations to the 60-year-old Gutfeld for just having his first child. I’m sure he’s still reveling in the wonder and joy of being a father.

After the child’s birth, he took a few weeks off, and during that time other people filled in for him as host of the show called “Gutfleld,” which somehow is the most highly watched among all evening talk shows.
These substitute hosts were all out of their element as well — even Tyrus, who otherwise provides the only consistent humor on the show when he is a guest –except for one person.
That person who magically and effortlessly — and even humorously — piloted the hourlong foray was Tom Shilllue.
Curiously, Shillue often travels with Gutfeld on his stand-up gigs. I wonder if he also steals the show from Gutfeld on those occasions as well.
Somehow, I continue to watch “Gutfeld,” hoping to find something to entertain or enlighten me in the evening, but generally I am just turned off.
As I mentioned, Tyrus as a guest usually saves the whole show, but when he’s out on the road for his own gigs, there’s not much on the night’s menu to enjoy.
Keep Tyrus as a permanent guest, and bring on Shillue as the host. Leave Gutfled to “The Five,” where he shines.
No one at Fox could care less what I think, but there I go again. Who cares?
