Trump Can’t Seem to End the War He Started

Tantrum

No, Donald, Iran is not Venezuela, and there’s no Delcy Rodriguez clone there to save your butt. Sadly, our president is finding it much more difficult to stop a war than it is to start it, especially when those Iranian hardliners hold sway over every decision.

Shoulda thought about that at the start, Mr. President. But, oh, no, you thought you could replicate the instant success of your Venezuelan coup, but it might take two to four days instead of two to four hours.

Wrong!

The latest development in the ongoing Middle Eastern saga sees Hezbollah firing missiles on Northern Israel, and  Israel responding by bombing Hezbollah enclaves in Beirut, Lebanon.

This got Trump’s ire up, and in a post indicated that it was no big deal for terrorists to bomb Israel’s sovereign territory. After all, hasn’t everyone already evacuated or taken shelter?

On Truth Social, Trump said the Hezbollah attack was “very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process.” Further, the Israeli attack on Beirut “should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran.”

Once again, we find Donald John Trump kowtowing to a hegemonic power. Today, to summarize his approach: “Stop it, Bibi! You’re ruining the peace process. Iran has every right to have its terrorist wing operating in Lebanon. Who are they hurting?”

Recall how, upon entering office, one of Trump’s first acts was to tell Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy to give up the fight and cede his eastern territories to invading Russia — this so that Trump could fulfill his promise of ending the war in Ukraine in 24 hours.

That didn’t work. Funny how Trump rarely mentions Ukraine anymore, if at all.

As for the pact Trump said will be signed with Iran today, which Iran never confirmed, a statement by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf following the Beirut attack warned:

“The Zionists’ incursion into Dahiyeh has once again shown that America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so. If you lack the will and ability to fulfill your commitments, speaking of continuing the path [to a pact] is not possible.”

Stay tuned for what happens today with the purported peace deal, if anything.
