Trump Not Among Finalists for Nobel Peace Prize, But Winner Dedicates It to Him

Surprise, surprise, but the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded on Friday, did not go to Donald Trump, nor was he even among the finalists. The award, not undeservingly, went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

“I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!” she said after receiving the early-morning telephone call from the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.

“This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer freedom. We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy,”

The deadline for submission of nominations was January 31, just 10 days into Trump’s second term as president and before he could begin facilitating the end of conflicts throughout the world.

However, that deadline did not stop the committee from awarding Barack Obama the prize with just scant days in office to prove his mettle. Al Gore also received the prize for predicting the end of the world by 2020, which of course hasn’t happened.

The chair of the Norwegian committee, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, when asked by a reporter why Trump wasn’t considered, didn’t even mention the deadline, but instead said the award is based on “courage and integrity.”

Obviously, the “integrity” qualification was a jab at Trump.
