On 2nd Anniversary of October 7, Trump Talks of Ending Thousands of Years of Middle Eastern Conflict
Never to couch matters in a realistic perspective, Donald Trump is now talking of ending thousands of years of conflict between Arabs and Jews — and Persians and Jews — with a 20-point plan.
Problem is, except for the United States and Israel, the other endorsing nations agreed on only a handful of the provisions: release the hostages, end the war, and establish a Palestinian state (the latter left out of the announced Trump plan). Even Israel to this day holds out the military option of ending Hamas’s reign n Gaza if they don’t leave under the Trump Plan.

As I was watching the news yesterday, one commentator (whose name eludes me) made the brilliant observation that Hamas “never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity,” which is only partially true.
Hamas’s position is pretty clear, “We ain’t goin’ nowhere.” They’re willing to give up their rockets, but not their guns. Guns enable them to continue their iron grip on the Gaza population.
On the second anniversary of the Hamas terrorization of Israel and massive hostage taking, let me repeat three points I garnered from an article in the Wall Street Journal, as these points clarify the state of the proposed plan and the actual level of support for it:
Salient point number one: There would have been no peace deal without Israel’s taking the fight to Qatar in an effort to eliminate Hamas leadership.
Salient point number two: There is really no agreed-upon joint deal. Israel still wants the right to eliminate Hamas, and the Arab and Muslim nations want a Palestinian state. Neither of these points is included in the deal that Trump steamrolled into existence.
Salient point number three: The Arab nations, upon hearing of Hamas’s agreement to release all hostages — but with conditions — viewed the response as a “no,” yet Trump trumpeted it as a “yes.”
We’ll see, won’t we? (The WSJ article is titled “How a Missile Strike Unlocked a Deal for Peace in Gaza.”
